"Night Vowels" by Kelly Cherry

Sigh of wind that clouds the moon.

Shriek of an eagle, cry of a loon

threading through fog.

The throaty frog.

Squeal of a mouse

the black cat drags back to the house.

And is that you I hear, weeping

while the rest are sleeping?

O, O, O, O, O

u, u, u.
